PTAR Members Win Trophies At NCAREMS Convention
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Four members of Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue (PTAR) won trophies at the 54th Annual North Carolina Association of Rescue & Emergency Medical Services (NCAREMS) Convention which was held at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, N.C. on April 22-24, 2010.
EMT-I Lisa Bowman and EMT Tabitha Story received a trophy for 2nd place
in the Basic Life Support (BLS) Competition.
EMT-I Cindy Reed and EMT Barbara Leonard received a trophy for 3rd place
in the Basic Life Support (BLS) Competition.
The BLS competition consisted of a scenario in which a team of two EMTs examined and evaluated an injured "victim", treated and bandaged their injuries, loaded them onto a stretcher and prepared them for transport to a medical facility, just as they would do in an actual real-life situation.
These annual rescue competitions are an important part of the training process for PTAR personnel. In each different competition, EMTs and Rescue Technicians put their skills to the test, doing pre-transport patient rescue, evaluation and treatment in simulated emergency exercises. Each exercise is judged closely to determine the winners.
which was held April 22-24, 2010 in Greenville, N.C.
In preparation for hosting the 2011 and 2012 NCAREMS Conventions, Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue (PTAR) members staffed a vendor booth during the 2010 convention in Greenville, N.C., in an effort to boost attendance when they "Bring It Home To High Point" the next two years.
Ms. Marva Wells, Sales Manager with the High Point Convention & Visitors Bureau (HPCVB), also attended this year's convention in Greenville to assist PTAR members in attracting large crowds of attendees at the 2011 and 2012 conventions in High Point.
The conventions – and vendor expositions of emergency medical equipment and vehicles – will be held at The Showplace in downtown High Point. It is estimated that these events could generate about $282,000 for the local economy.
