Several members of Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue (PTAR) won trophies at the 50th Annual N.C. Association of Rescue & Emergency Medical Services (NCAREMS) Convention which was held at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem on June 22-25, 2006. PTAR President Dwight McDowell was part of a team which won 1st place in the 2nd Annual Durwood Evans Classic Senior Rescue Competition, where teams of EMTs and Rescue Technicians extricated a "victim" from a badly damaged automobile by utilizing a variety of rescue tools and techniques. Chief Paula Lineberry and Captain Patsy Hege won a 3rd place trophy in the Basic Life Support (BLS) Competition. And EMT-I Robbie Todd and EMT-I Lane Doby won a 5th place trophy in the Basic Life Support (BLS) Competition. These rescue competitions are an important part of the training process for PTAR personnel. In each different competition, EMTs and Rescue Technicians put their skills to the test, doing pre-transport patient rescue, evaluation and treatment in simulated emergency exercises. Each exercise is closely judged to determine the winners, with PTAR members Patsy Whitfield, Janice Pearn and Lindsey Crater serving as judges during the BLS competition this year, along with a couple dozen other judges from across the State of North Carolina. Two other PTAR members EMT-I Crystal Pate and EMT Heather Lowdermilk assisted in the BLS competition by playing the role of victims during the exercises. PTAR's service area includes High Point, Greensboro, Jamestown, Archdale and Trinity, and other areas of Guilford, Davidson and Randolph counties. The organization also provides transportation outside its normal service area, including many out-of-state trips. PTAR is currently building a new Base Station near River Landing, at 2011 Sandy Ridge Road, to better serve the fast-growing "Heart of the Triad" area. A PTAR ambulance will operate from that new Base Station on a 24/7 basis. This will be PTAR's 4th Base Station, with their Headquarters Station located at 901 South Elm Street in High Point, and two other Base Stations in southern Greensboro and northeast Greensboro. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please Click HERE To See Ground Breaking Ceremony Photos!
