PTAR "Employees Of The Year" For 2008
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue (PTAR) recently announced two winners
of their "Employees Of The Year" award during their Annual Christmas Dinner,
which was held on December 13, 2008.
EMT-I Debra Morton and EMT Cheryl Rhoten shared the honor this year.
The award, which is voted on by PTAR members, recognizes an employee's dedication, accomplishments, and outstanding job performance.
In addition, the award acknowledges the recipient's training achievements, certifications and overall job knowledge.
PTAR Chief Paula Lineberry presented the awards, and told the PTAR employees and volunteers in attendance, "This is something that is not a popularity contest. It is something that goes to a very deserving individual, or individuals, and I think it's a very high honor to be voted Employee(s) of the Year by your own peers."
In introducing the first recipient, Chief Lineberry said, "When I think of this person there's one word which comes to my mind that describes this person, and that word is 'genuine'. This person is a genuine person, and this person takes pride in the job that they do every single day when they come to work. They don't take the job lightly, they're very dedicated to their patients, they take very good care of their patients, and this person is very sensitive to the patient's needs and things that are going on with their health. This person actually likes to come to work. And I know, for some of us, that's difficult on many days."
She continued by saying, "This person does the job without a great deal of supervision. This person is very responsible. And I think when I tell you who it is, the word 'genuine' will also pop into your mind. This is a very deserving recipient. I want to give a hand to Debra Morton."
Chief Lineberry also said, "People fight to work with Debra." She added that Debra Morton is very deserving of the Employee of the Year award, and thanked her for doing a great job.
Debra Morton joined PTAR on November 26, 2007, and is certified at the Emergency Medical Technician–Intermediate (EMT–I) level.
During the introduction of the second recipient, Chief Lineberry said, "The word that describes this person in my mind is 'dedication'. This person is very dedicated to this agency."
Chief Lineberry continued by saying, "This person understands the trials and tribulations of life, because this person has experienced many in their life over the course of the last few years. This person is conscientious, and takes very good care of the patients, as well. They go the extra mile to make sure the job is well done. This person's personality is very unique. And I say that with the utmost respect – very unique. And I think when I tell you who it is, you'll agree with me."
She added, "This person is well liked by their peers. A lot of the patients call in and want to be transported by this person. This person goes the extra mile. I've known this person for a number of years. In fact, I was this person's patient one time... I was scared to death!"
In concluding the introduction, Chief Lineberry said, "I think this person knows who she is... The one with the unique personality... Cheryl Rhoten."
Cheryl Rhoten has been a member of PTAR since March 21, 2005, and she is certified at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level.
Formed in 1971 as the High Point Rescue Squad, PTAR is a private non-profit organization which provides all levels of emergency medical assistance, as well as rescue service, transportation for convalescents and wheelchair-bound patients, and "stand-by" service for special events in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.
PTAR's local service area includes High Point, Greensboro, Jamestown, Asheboro, Archdale & Trinity, and other areas of Guilford, Davidson and Randolph counties. The organization also provides transportation outside of its normal service area, including many out-of-state trips.
PTAR currently operates out of four Base Stations, with their Administrative Office Building located at 1422 South Main Street in High Point, just a few blocks from their Headquarters Station at 901 South Elm Street. They have two other Base Stations in southern Greensboro and northeast Greensboro, and recently finished building a new Base Station at 2011 Sandy Ridge Road, near River Landing, to better serve the fast-growing "Heart of the Triad" area.
Their fleet has grown to now include 16 Advanced Life Support (ALS) Licensed Ambulances, 1 Rescue Truck, 3 Boats, 1 Wheelchair Van, 1 Emergency Support Vehicle for disasters and mass casuality situations, and 3 Staff Vehicles. They have a staff of roughly 70 full-time and part-time employees, including several office staff members, plus about 25 Volunteers.
PTAR ambulances respond to over 25,000 calls for service per year.
