Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue, Inc. (PTAR) was recently presented with two $500 grants from two Golden Living Centers in Greensboro, North Carolina. PTAR, which was established in 1971, is a non–profit organization that is franchised by Guilford County Emergency Medical Services to provide both emergency and non–emergency transportation for residents of – and visitors to – the county. Their primary responsibility is to provide convalescent transportation to the aging population. The Golden Living family of companies is one of the country's premier providers of patient–centered, integrated healthcare services. They provide individualized rehabilitation and therapy services, including physical, speech and occupational therapy, wound care and IV therapy. Their services also include skilled nursing and restorative care for patients before they return home after an illness or surgery. They also provide care for patients with more complex needs, including cardiovascular or pulmonary conditions. Their experienced therapists and nursing staff work closely with patients, and their primary physician, to develop a recovery plan which specifically addresses the patient's needs. By combining the skilled nursing services of the Golden Living Centers with innovative therapy programs, patients benefit from a well–rounded recovery plan that helps them to regain their mobility and independence. Golden Living Centers provide both short–term and long–term care in a supportive, home–like environment, with a focus on the individual and their unique needs. Their home–like environment allows for such things as visits by family pets, the ability of patients and residents to enjoy the outdoors in an onsite courtyard, and take part in an extensive activities program which includes recreation and social activities, spiritual services, exercise, arts and crafts, and outings to local parks and restaurants. By providing nursing, medical and rehabilitation services in a home–like atmosphere, the Golden Living Centers meet the medical, personal and social needs of their residents in a welcoming and comfortable residence where recovery, independence and socialization are the focal points. Golden Living is at the forefront of the quality movement in post-acute care, which is reinforced by their many AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards, the nation's highest award for distinguished healthcare achievement in a long–term care setting. The National Quality Award Program, sponsored by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, recognizes long–term care facilities that demonstrate a dedication to continuous quality improvement and achieving performance excellence. In 2009, Golden Living earned a total of 60 Quality Awards, which is more than any other company in the industry. Based in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Golden Living Centers offer services at over 300 locations throughout the United States, including two facilities in Greensboro, North Carolina. Golden Living–Greensboro is located at 1201 Carolina Street, and Golden Living–Starmount is located at 109 South Holden Road. Through their Community Support Initiative, local Golden Living Centers may apply for financial grants to be donated to non–profit organizations in their community. Ms. Pat Ring, Director of Admissions at Golden Living–Greensboro said that each Golden Living Center gives a grant to a local non–profit organization each year. She said that PTAR was chosen by the two Greensboro Golden Living Centers as this year's local grant recipient "because of PTAR's commitment to transporting and caring for the patients of the Golden Living Centers, and their commitment to our aging population." The grants were presented to PTAR Chief Paula Lineberry and PTAR Board Chairman Gart Evans on January 04, 2010 at the PTAR Administrative Offices at 1422 South Main Street, in High Point. Others who attended the presentation were: Randolph Pickell, Executive Director at Golden Living–Starmount Roxanne Hodges, Director of Sales & Marketing at Golden Living–Starmount Carol McClure, Executive Director at Golden Living–Greensboro PTAR plans to use the grant money to purchase a semi–automatic defibrillator – an electronic device used to counteract fibrillation of the heart muscle and restore a normal heartbeat by applying a brief electric shock. In accepting the donations, PTAR Chief Paula Lineberry said "This is used for all cardiac arrest patients. Statistics show that early defibrillation is the key to a successful resuscitation, and the more defibrillators we have on the streets the quicker we can get one to a cardiac arrest victim." PTAR Board Chairman Gart Evans said that the timing of the Golden Living Centers' donations was perfect, explaining that PTAR is currently in the process of adding another ambulance to their fleet. "With that," he said, "comes a very large expense of stocking the ambulance with all the much needed equipment which is required." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
