An award was recently presented to Dwight McDowell to show the appreciation of Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue (PTAR) in recognition of his outstanding leadership during his 30 years of loyal and devoted service as a volunteer member. He currently serves as President of the PTAR Board of Directors, and as Captain of Rescue. In addition, he is also certified as an Emergency Medical Technician– Intermediate (EMT–I), and has held several Instructor certifications over the years. The award was given to him during the Annual PTAR Christmas Dinner on December 15, 2007. It was presented by PTAR Chief Paula Lineberry, with assistance from Mr. Gordon Joyner, Executive Director of the North Carolina Association of Rescue & EMS (NCAREMS). Chief Lineberry said the award was being given to Dwight, "as a small token of PTAR's appreciation to him, for being our President, and for taking good care of us every day." She continued by saying, "He works for this organization. He is always up to something, and he does a fine job for us." She added, "We had this little statue built for him, and it's to show our appreciation for the good job he does – and we don't tell him that." In accepting the rosewood obelisk, Dwight addressed the PTAR members by saying to them, "The good job that you guys do is what makes it all worthwhile. And to see you guys on the street perform your miracles, and saving lives, and doing the good things that you're out there to do, is what makes it all worthwhile." He added, "It's nice to be able to stand back and see the kind of professionals that you are out there every day, and the kind of professional that Gordon Joyner is – the heart of this system – because you're the backbone of it. And I thank you all very much." Dwight first joined the High Point Rescue Squad in February 1977. The Squad's name was changed to Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue, Inc.(PTAR) in 1998 to reflect a growing service area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ contained within this press release. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Formed in 1971 as the High Point Rescue Squad, PTAR is a private non-profit organization which provides all levels of emergency medical assistance, as well as rescue service, transportation for convalescents and wheelchair-bound patients, and "stand-by" service for special events in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.
