Several members of Piedmont Triad Ambulance & Rescue (PTAR) won trophies at the 51st Annual N.C. Association of Rescue & Emergency Medical Services (NCAREMS) Convention which was held at the Hickory Metro Convention Center in Hickory, N.C. on June 21-24, 2007. PTAR President & Rescue Captain Dwight McDowell was part of a team which won a 2nd place trophy in the 3rd Annual Durwood Evans Classic Senior Rescue Competition, where teams of EMTs and Rescue Technicians rescued and treated a "victim" of a simulated accident. They then secured the "victim" on a stretcher and used ropes, pulleys and other rescue techniques to move the "victim" to safety. Chief Paula Lineberry and Field Supervisor Patsy Hege won a 2nd place trophy in the Basic Life Support (BLS) Competition. And EMT-I Robbie Todd and EMT-I Lane Doby won a 4th place trophy in the Basic Life Support (BLS) Competition. Also participating in the BLS competition this year were EMT-I Crystal Pate and EMT Lisa Bowman. The BLS competition consisted of two scenarios where teams of EMTs evaluated and treated "victims" of a simulated accident and another medical emergency. The teams then secured the "victims" on a stretcher and prepared them for transport to a medical facility. These rescue competitions are an important part of the training process for PTAR personnel. In each different competition, EMTs and Rescue Technicians put their skills to the test, doing pre-transport patient rescue, evaluation and treatment in simulated emergency exercises. Each exercise is closely judged to determine the winners, with PTAR members Patsy Whitfield, EMT-I Janice Pearn and EMT-I Lindsey Crater serving as judges during the BLS competition this year, along with a couple dozen other judges from across the State of North Carolina. Three other PTAR members EMT Melissa Borland, EMT-I Robin Brown, and EMT Patty Fuller assisted in the BLS competition by playing the role of "victims" during the exercises. North Carolina State Fire Marshal and Insurance Commissioner Jim Long was present at this year's convention, and assisted with handing out trophies to the winners of the various events. contained within this news release. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Formed in 1971 as the High Point Rescue Squad, PTAR is a private non-profit organization which provides all levels of emergency medical assistance, as well as rescue service, transportation for convalescents and wheelchair-bound patients, and "stand-by" service for special events in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. They have two other Base Stations in southern Greensboro and northeast Greensboro, and recently finished building a new Base Station at 2011 Sandy Ridge Road, near River Landing, to better serve the fast-growing "Heart of the Triad" area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To Provide The Best Possible Care For Our Patients By Providing The Best Equipment And Training For Our Personnel |
